Microwave Kozhukattai / Modak / Kudumulu

This is a special prasad offered to Lord Vinayaka. The festival of vinayaka chaturthi is incomplete without this sweet. Let us see the preparation of this traditional sweet using a microwave oven.

Ingredients:
For Pooranam:

Fresh Grated coconut: 2 cups
Powdered Jaggery: 1 cup
Cardamom powder 1 tsp
Cashewnuts 10

For Outer Covering:

Rice Flour 1 cup
Water 1 cup
salt 1/2 tsp
Sugar 1 tsp
Ghee or Butter 2 tsps

Preparation:
Mix the grated coconut and jaggery in a microwave safe bowl. Heat the mixture in the microwave for 2 mins. Once it is taken out, add the cardamom powder and cashewnuts. Now the poornam is ready .
Mix water, ghee, salt and sugar in a microwave safe bowl and heat it in the microwave for 1 min. Add the rice flour to the hot water and mix well. Sprinkle water on the dough and heat the dough for about 1 min. Now knead the dough to make it into a soft dough, suitable for making modakams.
Now take a small portion of the dough and make a small bowl in your palm and fill it with the poornam and close it. Now dip the modakam into the water and place it in the microwave steamer. Place the steamer in the microwave for about 2 mins. The modakams are now ready to serve.
